Three of Swords

Additional deck interpretation:

The Three of Swords points you towards a path of dealing with the breakdown of formerly solid partnerships as you continue your journey through the seventy-eight passageways of growth.

This is the level on your continuous cycle of change when, even though you know the worst is over, the pain from an emotionally upsetting change still rages in your mind like a thunderstorm of sorrow and sadness. Love and comfort is exchanged for betrayal and loss.

The feeling of this card is that everything is dark and cloudy, a premonition of bad news. The heart has been pierced with three swords, and this loss of a whole heart is mourned with many tears. These tears reflect a cleansing process and purification associated with losing a once-fulfilling, comfortable relationship or experiencing something unexpected that was out of your control and associated with a life-changing event.

Numerical Number 3: This number indicates the time when you will create and harvest a dream. However, when associated with the Three of Swords, this dream is linked to a partnership that creates pain or upsetting changes. There could even be interference from a third party that ruins the partnership.

The Element of Air: This card is associated with the elemental air qualities of the planet Uranus (radical changes) and the zodiac sign of Libra. The combination of Uranus in Libra brings out a nasty storm of mental pain that becomes stuck in your mind.

Probable Outcome: You might have a nasty fight or a grave misunderstanding that changes a relationship for the worse, or ends a relationship.

You might be experiencing a separation, divorce, rejection, betrayal, cheating, or abandonment.

Perhaps you are suffering from the loss of a job, or working in the wrong environment and dealing with troubled times with the people at work.

Your heart may not be into your work anymore and you want to leave your job and start over, but your fears stop you from leaving a bad situation and you continue to live with the pain.

Or you might be experiencing an injury, illness, surgery, or the death of a loved one.

Possible Outcome: You are recovering from a nasty fight that went too far, or a grave misunderstanding that changed a relationship, or ended the relationship, but the pain still lingers.

You are recovering, trying to release the pain you have experienced from a separation, divorce, rejection, betrayal, cheating, or abandonment. The pain lingers on because you are not sure where you are headed.

You have may have lost your job and are seeking new employment.

You are in denial and continue to work in the wrong environment by remaining at your same old job.

You could be recovering from an injury, illness, surgery, or the death of a loved one.

Then again, you might not be able to channel the energies of the Three of Swords into your life. If this is the case, you probably are going through denial to avoid the pain of something that took the wind out of your sails. You may be closing yourself off to others or be depressed and need professional help.

Timing: The Three of Swords predicts that an important thought will be turned inwards, then continue to linger in your mind. This event may occur in the next hours or days to come.
