Five of Swords

“Never confuse movement with action.” - Ernest Hemingway

Element of air power: The energy of air suggests that someone is in a state of arrested development. If you fought against, or plan to fight against, anything while in this state, it did not or will not pan out as you planned.

The Five of Swords represents ambition in a way which is rather negative. Too much ambition without actual awareness of the consequences or the people that you affect is never something good.

You may be overambitious, like the warrior depicted in this card. Such ambition can leave you as a dejected loser or a callous winner. In either case, the connotation is somewhat negative. This card requires that you become more considerate of those you surround yourself with, to let go of ego.

Right now, it's important to attempt to pick up the pieces. You still have the chance to change the energy while the conflict is still fresh. You may feel as if everyone and everything is against you. You might also lose some friends along the way. This is why you will need to make a significant decision about your point of view. What is more important to you? Mutual progress, or winning? Your decision might require you to stand up to a conflict within yourself.

Curb that ego as you apply yourself to fight for what you may think or feel is more important to you. You could lose some good friends along the way. The Five of Swords can also show that all you want is for a particular period to be over so that you can forget and forgive.

At times of Imbalance: The conflict you are experiencing is actually going to become more upsetting as you realize that there can never be a clear winner. These are terms that you need to come to grips with.

Medicine: Apply internal balance and objectivity. Because you are beginning to understand that winning is not everything, you will be capable of focusing your energy on something a lot more constructive and positive.

Mantra: Daily, I apply calm objectivity.
