Eight of Cups

“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of.” - Benjamin Franklin

Element of water power: The Eight of Cups means departure or withdrawing to reconfigure or start from scratch. This card indicates a change, which is not the easiest thing to look forward to, particularly when you have to restart or recap what and where things may have gone wrong.

The element of the water power of emotions stands still. It begins to stagnate and the mists of confusion rise to the skies and cloud the light of clarity. The stagnant water swallows up a small bit of freshness and vitality. You have already wasted enough of your energy on people who give nothing in return.

The Eight of Cups suggests that you will need to walk away or abandon the situation you have been resting on. Expect clues as to what you may find later, trust your intuition while your energy is low. You may give in to feeling somewhat tired and apathetic about these challenges.

It is important to realize that you can make profound changes in the way things around you are affecting you. It is suggested that you target each problem area with awareness and objectivity. You are urged to think and respond, rather than react in haste. The energy in this card requires you to note the current predisposition that you may find yourself in, and to take stock of what you can let go of and what to recover. Recover what has been lost, but do not dwell in the state of victimhood, as this slows down the flow of the water element.

Do not judge yourself in this card reading. It comes through as an assurance that the Universe is Transient, that all things flow, even if it feels like they don't at this moment. The sun does not stop shining and the moon always rises.

If you feel you do not have any major problems today, then become aware of what energy you are exchanging within your immediate environment. Assess things realistically. Ensure that there are no areas of leakage. If there are, then consider what you can do. If there aren't, know that you are living your life in accordance with the dance of the Universe!!

The Eight of Cups indicates that It's time to consider the Self. Set boundaries, and say "no". It may be an old behavioral pattern to always direct your love toward people from whom nothing comes in return. This may be a sign indicating your fears of accepting love. Ask yourself questions. Are you ready to set limits and stand by them? In what situations do you hide your true feelings?

At times of Imbalance: You feel empty and sucked dry. This painting speaks of an interpersonal situation in which the river of energy has stagnated. The more you try to revitalize a relationship which has fallen into a rut, the more powerless and empty you will feel. Any attempt to re-energize the other will dissipate your energies further, without achieving any results.

Medicine: The Eight of Wands requires you to take note of the evolution of your soul and how you make a choice from hereon. Tackle the affirmation with great gusto! That should shift your personal blockages on this path. Practice self-reflection even if the problem was not created by you. The first thing you need to do is to stop and refuse to play the game.

Mantra: My energy is the energy of the Universe. My power is my own.
