The Five of Cups is connected to the zodiac water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Water signs are very emotional, sensitive, intuitive and compassionate. When they feel emotional pain and sadness, they have a difficult time letting go and remain stuck in nostalgia.
The Five of Cups shows an intensely bright Full Moon with a hint of yellow in the middle of the Moon. The Full Moon represents wishes come true, or a time to release the past and what has not worked for you.
Inside the illuminating Moon, there is a yellow image that represents the woman’s memories of her soul mate, and a reminder of someone that she loved in the past. The Full Moon seems to bring the past into the future and causes one to stay in confusion, regret and nostalgia.
There is a woman standing in front of the pillars. The left side of the pillars represents the past and the right side represents the future. If you look closely, the woman’s soul-mate has left and exited through the pillars on the left which represents endings and the past.
The woman does not want to let go of her soul-mate and is still holding on to the past, because she holds something in her left hand that resembles the same color of her soul mate. Remember the left side represents endings and the past.
The fallen cups represent a relationship that has ended. If you look closely, there is one cup that is still standing and this cup represents a new relationship in the future, and possibly the right one, this time, but the woman cannot see this right now because she is still stuck in the past.
The spilt milk looks like a large “Continent” of pain, and this is the feeling of this card, lots of emotional pain. The Five of Cups represents a person that is unhappy and going through a difficult loss and depression because of the ending of a relationship.
There is an extreme sadness and they cannot see the future, but rather the loss they are going through. They are in a mourning period until they are ready to let go and turn away from the past. This card also represents a person that dwells on the past and does not know how to forgive themself and the person that hurt them.
They are obsessed with the hurt, disappointment, anger, depression, regret, and cannot focus on the future – the past still lingers.
Do you remember the words of God to Lot’s wife? God said, “Escape for thy life! Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed!” But Lot’s wife looked back to see Sodom burn, and for this she turned into a pillar of salt. So remember that we “control” by letting go of the past rather than looking back!”
