About the Swords: The Swords usually indicate a struggle or conflict, a possible decision about separating from your past attachments. There is a desire to find truth that will shed light on your situation so you can act on it. The Swords represent your thoughts, which will cut into and sort through your situation.
The Swords further represent the element of air, the season of spring, the color yellow, and the direction of the east. The Swords are associated with the astrological signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
Their positive characteristics are their strength, authority, courage, ambition and desire to travel. The “Sword Archetypes” desire to seek the truth and are not afraid to call a “spade a spade”!
They experience conflict, pain, anger and aggression, and are connected to the spring months in the northern hemisphere and the fall season in the southern hemisphere: The time of March 21 to June 21. The timing of the Swords is undetermined in my deck, because this Archetype wrestles with unresolved issues in their mind, but when the timing is on course, it all happens with sudden rapidity.
My experience with the Three of Swords: The Three of Swords represents a painful love triangle, and every time I see this card, it reminds me about the end of my marriage. As I remember, my mother said that we had to go find a red vehicle, and she further said, “The red vehicle was not far away from your house.” My mother was told by her spiritual connection that we were going to find a red vehicle with an out of state license plate.
So, one night, we decided to drive around the area that we lived in, and we found a red SUV within .7 miles from the house, with an out of state license. The red SUV was parked at the condos, located next to the golf course, were the snow birds stayed during the winter season. My husband’s car was parked next to the red SUV, and at that moment, I understood the feeling of the Three of Swords. I felt like the Archetype in this card, lying in the coffin with three swords piercing my heart.
Before the ending of my marriage, I remember my spiritual guides telling me not to buy anything for the house, because I would not be taking it with me. That night, I finally understood why my husband’s personality changed like a flash, and why my spiritual guides were warning me not to make any large purchases connected to the house.
My ex-husband is the Aquarius zodiac air sign, and they are known to change their temperament as fast as the wind changes and will not hesitate to express their anger verbally. During the last two (2) years of our marriage, he constantly picked on me for everything I did.
He was comparing me to the other woman in his life, and I should have seen through his abusive change of his behavior, but I did not see everything clearly until the night we found the red SUV. That was the night that I learned to pay attention to my spiritual connection, and never second-guess myself again.
My interpretation of the Three Of Swords: The Three of Swords represents a painful love triangle but does not always represent your partner’s unfaithfulness. It may mean that your partner is still stuck in the past, and unable to release another person. Therefore, your partner is thinking about the other person constantly, neglectful of you.
Your partner cannot find a way to resolve their feelings and make the right choice, so they chose to stay in a love triangle that wounds you deeply. Actually, you and your partner are in this love triangle together, and both of you are feeling different aspects of its pain.
Another side to the Three of Swords is that your partner chose the person from the past over you. You have pain, sorrow and a deep, heartfelt loss. You are experiencing the consequences of your poor choices and blindness to the instability of your relationship. You really believed that your partner was going to choose you in the end, but this did not happen.
You are at the point where everything has finally surfaced. The worst is over, and you are no longer second-guessing yourself. You are shedding tears and entering a cleansing process, realizing the difficulty of letting go and coming to terms with the loss. You are the one who was deeply hurt and are trying to find your way out of the pain.
My interpretation of the symbolism of this card: The Three of Swords shows a triangle pointing in three directions. One direction is from the past while the other two directions are in the present. The Three of Swords represents sorrow, disappointment, separation, betrayal, abandonment and rejection.
The sky is gray and full of clouds representing an uneasy feeling as the gray clouds in the sky unleash rain, a premonition of bad news.
There is a man lying in a coffin with three swords piercing his heart. The three swords represent the pain of a love triangle, but the piercing three swords represent a deep hurt at the center of one’s focus.
A mourned loss brings forth many tears, which are represented by the rain pouring from the clouds. These tears reflect a cleansing process, purification and the release of painful emotions associated with the loss of a once fulfilling, comfortable relationship that became stunted.
The worst is over because everything is revealed, and it is now necessary to prepare for a more fulfilling future relationship and let the past go, despite the lingering hurt.
