I was recently asked by a client to explain what a “blue moon” is and why we say “once in a blue moon“.
The full moon occurs once every 29.5 days. This means that there is always one full moon every month. However, every month except February has at least 30 days in it, so on rare occasions two full moons can occur in the same month.
The second full moon in a month is called a ‘blue moon’. The saying ‘once in a blue moon’ means that something is as rare as the occurrence of a second moon in the same same month.
I love blue moons. It is a sign from the universe that even though something seems unlikely or impossible, it could still happen. Blue moons in the sky remind us that we can have hope and believe in miracles.
Love, Caroline Anna
