New Year, New You!

Now we are in January, it is a time for a fresh new start for many of us. A clean slate. Out with the old and in with the new. It is time to set your intentions and goals for the New Year.

I prefer to say ‘intentions’ rather than resolutions. Resolutions, much like rules, feel like they are made to be broken! If you set a resolution, it can feel like you have to keep it perfectly or it’s broken. Intentions, however, are more flexible and empowering.

If you set an intention, you can bounce back if you miss a beat. It doesn’t matter if you miss a day or mess up. You just keep intending and then you do better next time. The key is to keep trying and put your good intentions into action.

With an intentions plus action mindset, you are much more likely to achieve what you wanted over the long term, even if you slip up sometimes. I love this way of thinking when we set goals because it means that what we want will actually happen.

Here are some examples of New Year’s intentions that I have set for myself. Will you try them with me? They might just help you be happier and experience a fresh new you.

  • I will do one act of random kindness every week.
  • I will spend three minutes a day in quiet and stillness.
  • I will let people help me when they offer.
  • I will send loving kindness to others when I feel they have upset me.
  • I will shift to positive thoughts and affirmations when my thinking turns negative.
  • I will nurture my physical body.
  • I will spend time in nature every week.
  • I will practice gratitude every day for my life and the people in it.
  • I will do something happy and fun, just for me, every day.

Do you have any suggestions for uplifting New Year’s Intentions? Please share by posting below. You might just help another reader with your random act of kindness ;) x

Wishing you a wonderful start to 2013 xx
