Tarot by CelesteHi Nathan, I hope you don`t mind me joining in, but i have read your posts with much interest! I am new to tarot, only been studying for about a year now and i feel very much like a beginner So bear in mind, my input may not be of significance During my learning process i have read many different books on tarot and studied the cards quite intently and at the moment i am on lesson 10 of Alison`s course ( and loving every minute of it!) Each person learns and approaches tarot differently i suppose, but fundamently, i would say there are certain ethics and responsibilities to be considered if you read the cards for others Personally (and this is only my opinion) i have found through my studies, that the individual tarot cards can be quite complex, they require much thought, because the interpretations can have a multitude of meanings to different people, depending on the situation being presented. The only true way(my opinion again!) of reading the cards for another is to have a question that the querant is seeking a better understanding of If you lay a spread then have a question, you then interpret the cards by their position, the way they relate to each other and the over all feel of the spread, the reading you then glean from the cards gives the querant some guidance as to how to proceed Now if you kept the same lay and asked a completely different question, the cards would then mean something else, you would not read them exactly the same as the first time, would you? My point is, without a question how would you know what the cards were saying? Where would you begin? How would you know what you was trying to interpet? You would need to be psychic, and i`m sure tarot readings are not about that! I also think the card meanings go deeper than the interpretations in a book The book is a guideline until you develop a deeper understanding of the cards, through intuition and awareness and continued study The only way you can truly give a insightful reading i think, is by having the question first I think you said in your first post that the lady who asked for the reading wanted to know about her job? then you said she talked about her husbands heart problems, you did not say whether you then did a seperate reading for this? perhaps you did and i`ve missed it, anyway what i`m trying to say is it is important for beginners like myself to have certain guidelines when reading and learning the cards, otherwise the whole process becomes confusing! I am sure us beginners all hope to be able to give insightful and possibly accurate readings, aswell as gain insights for ourselves I just don`t feel as though it should be approached as some sort of test or competition, to see if you can *guess* what the problem is, tarot is more than that, much more, i think it can enrich your whole life, i don`t see it as a fortune telling game, or a party piece, but as a journey of self discovery and self awareness Sorry guys i think i may have gone slightly off topic here!! Anyway Nathan, you must read how you think is best for you, as you said in your earlier post, your ways and beliefs have been around you for some 20 odd years! But bear in mind what HH said about ethics, i think tarot readers have a duty and a responsibility, as i said earlier, to their querant and some areas should not be gone onto i.e the outcome of a problem for a third party, who has NOT consulted the tarot reader I wish you well
