Originally by Nathan:- The original spread I used for the question about the job was done like this (using all Major Arcana Only) four cards

an outside influence to the left (the hermit) two cards in the middle for the answer (in order from left to right The World, and The Tower) and a second outside ifluence to the left (The Chariot)
I am sorry but I have laid the cards out as you suggest but I do not understand your spread

What do you mean when you say the two cards in the middle “for the answer”? The answer to the querant’s question or the answer to what the influences of the other two cards are or ??? What is the purpose of the spread? Is it one you created? …I chose to use only the Minor cards to pin point the tower card better, because I thought I would have a clearer picture, and more detail
I do not know what you mean about the Minor Arcana pinpointing the Tower nor how the court cards and the pips could add more detail… The keywords to this particualr deck for the five of swords (which I didn't look at until now, because I used a book on tarot) are "illusionary victory - defeat - shame - disgrace

"
What deck and what book are you using? With the understanding of the keywords of the 5-Swords from your deck do you still think the message of the card was one of being "on the right track"? This is just a tough thing

If I am reading the cards right, this doesn't seem like good news (not every reading can be I'm sure) But I never had such a weighty issue before me such as this either
You are quite right this is tough, but I still do not understand how you came to the conclusions you did about the cards being indicative of the querant’s husband rather than the querant and that the message was negative

Again let me ask you if you have a written code of ethics that governs your tarot reading? What is your policy on reading for third parties? As far as the medical stuff, I'm sure she's more aware of the proccedure that her husband will be going through as well as the risks
Then what can you, as a tarotist, add to her options or insight? Is giving medical opinions within your realm of expertise? I THINK that maybe the cards are suggesting then, that there MAY be some complications, but in the end he will pull through
What exactly in this spread make you think “complications”? At this point I am going to hold off answering that until I can find a "soft" way of telling her what the cards say
And what exactly is it that the cards are saying? I have some very strong feelings about offering either opinions or advice to clients

If I am unable to interpret the cards satisfactorily, without reading into them, I will tell the querant that I am unable to interpret the cards, offer my apologizes and leave it at that

Rather a few moments of embarrassment than to tell the client what I think rather than what the cards are indicating

What are the ethical ramifications, and perhaps even the legal ramifications, of telling this querant that you "think" the cards mean a complication? Um

.I think that's all I got for you for now

I hope I answered everything

For now, I will hold off on telling her what cards came up for me
This is most likely merely a case of semantics, but what do you mean “what cards came up for me”? Good luck
