Tarot Court cards of swords & pentaclesby Celeste Hi All, I have just finished lesson 9, the second part of the court cards and i do feel i`m beginning to get to grips with the courts abit more now Bluemoon, your discriptions of the queens of swords and pents, from your deck, are truly captivating, and i can see similar characteristics with mine From the Ancient Egyptian Tarot we have the queen of swords, her throne is the clouds, she holds a sword in an upright position and on her head she wears the golden-winged headdress of the vulture goddess Nekhebet The interpretation in the book highlights the fact that this is a very intelligent lady, she is highly perceptive and a keen observer of the ways of humanity My opinion of this queen is the same as the books but i would also add, she is fiercely independant and self-reliant, and although she can be charming, gracious and a popular person, she gives the impression of not suffering fools gladly I think she could be lonely at times because she can come across as dominating and abit of a control freak, her expectations of others is high and i don`t think many can live up to this, i think in some situations she may appear aloof to people, and some may not know how to approach her If this queen is well aspected, her strong qualities are to be admired she has much confidence and stands up for what she believes in, i would love to have a friend like this who is calm and cool in most situations someone you could depend on to give good advice.I would not want her as an enemy though! I reckon she is a tough cookie!! The other court card which i was drawn to was the king of swords In my deck, the king rides before the winds of the storm As his horse gallops through the air, he extends his sword arm, as if in attack He is above the clouds, in complete control of his element The interpretation in the book says The king is driven by inspiration and is not held back by reflection When an idea grips him he pursues it with all his energy and is unswerving in his determination to see it through! He is predominately active and prefers a strategy of attack rather than one of defence, he acts first and asks questions later The element he has been given by clive barrett in is book is, Fire of Air Clive Barrett asigns all his court cards to two elements firstly by association of the suit and secondly by rank In his system the king represents fire, The queen, water, The prince/knight, air, The princess/page earth I do not know if this is just his system or whether it is common elsewhere, but i do like it for this deck Anyway getting back to the king swords element, fire of air seems a good indication of the kings authority as air and fire are well suited, in so much, as air fans the flames of fire, hence a raging inferno, unstopable and very powerful, you have intellect coupled with action, force and inspiration I think this king is a man of few words but plenty of action, his intellect and mind are sharp, he too does not suffer fools gladly and has no time for the slow thinking of others A powerful man, who i would like in my corner if i needed help or someone to stand up for me I suppose if ill aspected, you may have an aggressive person, maybe a bully or just someone who is cold hearted All in all, i think the king of swords and the queen of swords make a good couple, on their own they can be formidable, but together i would think, definately a force to be reckoned with!! *Lol* I have really enjoyed getting to know the court cards, i have used many ways of doing this as i decribed in lesson 8, and it seems to work well for me!
