Tarot Symbol dictionaries by HHOriginally by Celeste:- P.S HH, i know you are into symbols, so would you have any book recommendations for a beginner to read and understand, also would the rachel pollack books be adequate for explaining symbolism? [/quote] Hi Celeste, for several years there has been a rumour that Corrine Kenner, the creator of Epicurean Tarot fame (or is that infamy), was publishing a dictionary of tarot symbols I recently asked about this and was told, "Don't ask " However, there are two dictionaries that I have used for several years and recommend without reservation: The Penguin Dictionary of Symbols Jean chevalier and Alain Gheerbrand Translated by John Buchananan-Brown Penguin Books 1996 ISBN 0-14-051254-3 A Dictionary of Symbols J.E.Cirlot English translation copyright 1971 Routledge & Keegan Paul Ltd ISBN 0-88029-702-6 (a paperback edition is available by special license through Barnes and Noble ISBN 1-56619-829-10) Rachel Pollock's Illustrated Guide to Tarot (Element Books 1999) is a great addition to my tarot library, and yes, she does discuss symbols, but as you might expect, not in depth nor detail She touches on Kabbalah, astrology, and some of the popular mythological beginnings for tarot Included in this book are her methods of determining soul, personality, and year cards She also gives examples of exercises and spreads However, each chapter is a only two pages, so the information is relatively general It's in the cards!
