Tarot by HHHi Caz, while your remarks were directed to bluemoon I thought to add my impressions and my interpretations as well As always, my comments about the cards are not meant as a critique of how you interpreted the cards in your spread, but are, rather, a commentary on the different ways the cards can be interpreted in their spread positions I am using the Hudes Tarot Susan Hudes concept and art US Games Systems, Inc 1995 ISBN: 0-88079-137-3 As I recall you are using on the Witches tarots Question: A vision quest seems right for me at this time What do I have to gain by doing one? Currently: Five of Cups I interpret that as I am going through a tough time where I have a strong sense of futility and loss I am worried about where I am going and need to reassess my goals
I would tend to see this card as a message that you need to come to an emotional understanding that what happened did, and no amount of moroseness will alter the facts of that reality In relationship to your question I would see this card as asking several questions: What cultural imperative do you have for seeking a vision? Are you properly prepared for this initiatory act? What purpose would undergoing this initiatory act fulfill, personally, emotionally, creatively, culturally, spiritually? Are you prepared to fail the test of a visionary quest? Advice: The Tower I interpret this as that a drastic change is needed
I would interpret this card in this position surrounded by the 5 and 10-Cups as indicating you need to carefully and critically examine your understandings, your beliefs, and your reasons for seeking a vision Symbolically we can say that the Tower is built of our misunderstandings, our lack of knowledge, our mis-beliefs, misconceptions, our ignorance, and our misemotions One of the keywords for this card is Awakening There are a number of trump cards that present us with the opportunity to rebirth ourselves, to put the past where it rightfully belongs (a direct reference to the 5-Cups), and to cease being a victim of our own making The Tower card does it visually No birth is without trauma and terror; no birth takes place without physical pain, no birth takes place without blood and bodily fluids, and not every birth has a wonderful outcome But there is an outcome THAT is the message of the Tower card Life calls and we either go towards it or we stagnate However, we need to be sure that it is OUR life that we are going towards, not a renewed set of misunderstandings and misemotions Outcome: Ten of Cups I can find a place within myself of commitment, peace and love *if I follow the advice given* (thanks to bluemoon) :) I just am having a few problems regarding specifics and have some questionis The strong presence of cups makes it sound like the cards are talking about my relationships, but in my notes it says they do also refer to spiritual experience, so is that likely?
In my tarot system the suit of Cups certainly has a strong connection to spirituality: it can be said that the Cups are symbolically the Grail and that the Fool’s Journey parallels the ages-old quest for the knowledge represented by the Grail It is my considered opinion that when the Cups are reflective of relationship most often and most importantly that relationship is with ourselves… I would be inclined to interpret this 10-Cups as reinforcing the message of the Tower and the message of the 5-Cups…let the past go and prepare for a new cycle I think that this series of cards look behind the question and are reminding you that before undertaking a new quest, the old one needs to be confronted, dealt with, and put to rest Looking at the cards in unison there seems to be a secondary message as well, “Be careful what you wish for You may just get it and chances are it will not be what you expected.” OR are the cards saying that a recent feeling of failure and loss is leading me to considering a vision quest but the tower is advising that I make changes to my attitude (i.e do NOT go) and that by not going I can more easily achieve my *ten of cups*?
While only you have all the necessary background information to answer this question, my initial impression when I looked at the cards was similar to what you say here, and after looking closely at the cards in their respective positions the impression is even stronger that you are seeking a vision for the wrong reasons… I think that your interpretations are thoughtful and spot on We all tend to second guess ourselves, the strength of your conviction WILL come with practice!
It’s in the cards! HH
