Tarot by HHHi Mysti! Provocative thread, nice insights! Some of you know my mantra: the meanings of the cards are not static, those meanings combine, re-combine, and shape-shift in multiple ways One of my theories is that when we develop our eye for tarot detail the cards open up and the symbolism contained within each fulfils its destiny as language The meanings of cards are altered, subtly or not-so-subtly, by the individual spread; how each card relates to every other card that is in the layout; the "story" of the cards composing the spread; the cards that bracket "the cards" and the influences they exert; the meanings that the reader has assigned to the cards if any given deck; and the question I would say that these points form the bedrock foundation of my personal tarot system Like you, I prefer to look for options and opportunities within the messages being presented by the cards, whether singly or in a spread; I also look for warnings and cautions Also like you, I strive to be impeccable in what I say to the querant and to say it with as much clarity as I can I tend to use the cards to gain insights, to see options, and to for personal-empowerment, but I do not see that as being either too positive or light and airy…now, to repeat myself I will add: We each have our individual reading styles Because I am not a licensed therapist nor a licensed counselor I cannot legally:- offer _advice_, nor can I give recommendations to someone about a decision or course of action I can interpret the cards, discuss possibilities or potentials, and assist the querant to see options and opportunities I can discuss with the querant if I have had a similar situation in my own life and I can talk with them about how I dealt with that situation I cannot, however, make recommendations on how they proceed In point of fact, from a legal standpoint, I am compelled to tell every querant that tarot readings are *for entertainment purposes only* Both the written readings and the audio recordings of my tarot sessions, must, under the laws of my home state, contain a disclaimer to that effect, as well as clearly stating that the session was not one of counseling, advice, or recommendation for action If I offer *advice* to my clients, I could be prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license, i.e "acting in the capacity of a psychological analyst or therapist"…a serious charge So, while my concerns are centered on the querant during their session with me and the cards, I am also concerned with not exceeding the restraints of the laws that govern my tarot practice It’s in the cards!
