Tarot To reverse or not to reverseby HH Reversals are interpreted in a variety of ways, as a lessening of the energy of the card, as a block of the energy of the cards, as a negation of the upright meaning of the card, as the polarity of the upright meaning of the card, etc Every tarotist needs to decide whether to use reversals or not I do not use reversed cards in readings I find it more accurate and beneficial to acknowledge that the images of the tarot cards represent a plethora of shaded meanings The meanings are correlated to the deck's creator and to our understanding of the symbology of the cards and to the cards that are encountered in the entirety of the spread Assigning meaning to the inversion of cards seems to me to discount the very nature of tarot, and consequentially, of life itself For is not life composed of seeking the balance point between what we in the western world see as the positive and negative? The specific meanings I assign cards in readings are based upon the following criteria: 1 ) the individual spread: how each card relates to every other card that is the layout 2 ) the "story" of the cards composing the spread 3 ) the cards that bracket "the cards" and the influences they exert 4 ) the meanings that the reader has assigned to the cards if any given deck 5 ) the readers personal tarot table and understanding of the deck with which they are working 6 ) the question
It's in the cards! HH
