Tarot by HHOriginally by bluemoon:- Hi HH! As ever, your post is interesting and thought-provoking However, for the uninitiated (i.e me!), could you please explain what "shadow work" is? Thanks in advance [/quote] Absolutely! Shadow work, at least in the way I use the term, is an indepth look at the seemingly ingrained behaviours that we each exhibit, (most) often without any conscious choice being made Robert Bly speaks of the shadow as a bag, carried on the back: it gets bigger and heavier as we get older This bag contains all that we have denied, repressed or suppressed, not only in our lives, but in ourselves I use the tarot to look at what we evidence in our behaviors and to examine the underlying belief or misbelief that prompts those behaviour By examining our shadow sides we are better able to create, delineate, and maintain our emotional maturity and our spiritual goals and gage our progress As we become conscious of our behaviours we can see why we react as we do, where our communication weaknesses lie, and learn to see the obvious and beyond the obvious As our skills evolve we are also made aware of other’s behaviours and can, hopefully, avoid being manipulated by others I have found the tarot images a very nice medium for putting me in contact with my shadows Although I am about as far removed from being a Jungian as it is possible to get I do find truth in his statements about the shadow side Carl Jung had the belief that one of the primary details of adult growth and progress was bringing the shadow to light He spoke of bringing the light of conscious awareness into the darkened contents of our shadow He predicted that without such an examination full potential was impossible To conscious behaviour!
