Tarot by HHOriginally by Caz:- Hi Everyone, I can see why many packs would be useful I am very much a beginner and for me it feels somehow like I would be being unfaithful if I worked with many packs instead of just the one that I have Has anyone else encountered this view before or am I being really naive?
Hi Caz! Sure! I myself have had that thought .it seems to be almost a normal reaction for us to anthropomorphize our decks: to give them human feelings, human characteristics, and human reactions I find myself doing it all the time I also remind myself that tarot cards are bits of cardboard covered with inked icons and symbols Is it possible:- to be unfaithful to an inanimate object? I doubt if we could get a consensus on that! I am using Fergus Hall's Witches Tarot, which is probably not the best set to learn with or the most symbolically rich I just can't help feeling that because it found its way to me we have a special relationship that would be undermined by having many decks
How many friends do you have? Some of our friends are much closer to us that are others, but we still value them, enjoy the time we spend with them, learn from their insights, their points of view, and their interactions with the world at large It is the same with tarot decks With few exceptions they each are based on a philosophical basis that gives us new insights, challenges our point of view, and interacts with the world on a slightly different basis Or, let’s use another analogy: you can’t use a feather to hammer in a nail, you can’t use a shovel to unplug the bathtub (well, I suppose you could, but it would be a job of work!), you don’t use a floor broom to wash dishes, or a vacuum cleaner to wash windows It has been my experience that some decks are better at certain aspects of my tarot practice than are others For instance, The Tarots of the Origins is a spectacular deck for shadow work, but it is not a good deck to ask about romantic insights: Tarot of Ceremonial Magick is a good deck for gaining personal insights, but not so good at looking for options related to employment: the Hudes deck is a good deck to use for relationship questions, but is not such a good deck to examine spiritual issues… I am not challenging anyone's opinion, just wondering if I am alone in mine Is there anyone out there who feels the same way? I am curious because it feels so right but maybe I am wrong
There are few-to-none rights and wrongs in tarot There are rather suppositions, opinions, and personal preferences If it feels right, go with it!
It’s in the cards! HH
