Tarot Meeting Amythist's Challenge: Sample reading by HH

Amythist put forward a challenge to create, “…a 25 card spread and give each card a meaning… “ As I seldom pass up an opportunity to talk tarot I will take her up on her challenge

The Spiritual Seeker’s spread

A spread to determine where the significant influences will be found over the next six months

The first thing I noticed as I laid the spread was the abundance of Cups! Cups the suit of Elemental Water, emotions, creativity ,and spiritual insights

Position 1 (five cards) defines the inner influences of the Seeker Card 1, the determining factor: The Chariot Card 2, the incentive: Ace of Cups Card 3, the desire: III-Cups Card 4, what it is necessary to know: VI-Wands Card 5, what it is necessary to learn: 3-Swords Purposeful intent and determination allow the querant to move forward in the quest (Chariot)

Utilizing the incentive of a newly recognized spiritual understanding (Ace-Cups) gives the querant the impetus to share the abundance of self with fellow seekers (III-Cups) while maintaining the awareness that sweet success in never attained without a plan of action and being ready to move on (VI-Wands)

The lesson for the querant is to open the heart to allow the past to be washed away and prepare for expanded understanding of the purpose of the Journey(III-Swords)

Position 2 (five cards) defines the exterior or outer influences Card 1, people in the environment: V-Cups Card 2, things in the environment: Queen of Cups Card 3, places: VI-Pentacles Card 4, causal agent: Ace of Swords Card 5, expected affects from the above influences: Page of Cups As the querant continues the Spiritual quest he will meet many people filled with angst and morose (V-Cups)

He must maintain full awareness of how others problems can become his own and utilize his imagination and his maturity to avoid expending energy of unwarranted pity while encouraging others to seek serenity and calmness(Queen of Cups), balancing his expenditures carefully to avoid mawkish behavior (VI-Pentacles)

New and exciting intellectuals endeavours and challenges (Ace-Swords) instill a lasting sense of wonder and amazement (Page of Cups)

Position 3 (five cards) defines the spiritual seed being sown Card 1, how to sort the necessary from the inane: The Fool Card 2, how to being the process of germination the seed: The World Card 3, where to look for assistance: Page of Wands Card 4, how to facilitate growth: Knight of Swords Card 5, how to nurture the potential: Ace of Pentacles With balance comes the ability to begin to expand the field of investigation

The Seeker encounters many philosophies, much dogma, and more hyperbole, thus he needs to sieve the wheat from the chaff

Sample everything with gusto, but only add those things of great worth to your bag of trick: expect guidance in the sieving from an unexpected source, heed his actions well (The Fool)

Before planting the wheat seed finish any projects, complete any business, and put the past to rest

Strive for self-regulation, be in charge of self and your environment, dance the dance of life as the seed is planted deeply, and watered well (The World)

An unexpected message arrives from an unexpected source providing access to a fiery mentor (Page of Wands) and be ready to meet an exciting world traveler who will tell tales of enchantment and enlightenment (Knight of Swords)

By providing all the newly planted seed requires the querant will have a smooth transition into good health and good fortune, handle both with care(Ace-Pentacles0 Position 4 (five cards) defines opportunities and challenges Card 1, potential adversity: King of Cups Card 2, unexpected good fortune: II-Swords Card 3, unexpected change of plans: VII-Wands Card 4, resolution: the course of action settled on: VIII Cups Card 5, what to be wary of: Knight of Pentacles When dancing the dance of life, dance with your eyes open

The tide may rush in, cutting you off from the mainland and isolate you without warning, It is easy to become so enmeshed in one thing that you become egocentric and cut-off from reality (King of Cups)

Shake off the malaise of over-emotionality and utilize the burgeoning intellectual understanding of who you are without the blinkers (II-Swords) striving for an equilibrium between the force of the emotions and the power of the intellect

Gather your well-woven cloak around you, pick up your sturdy staff and prepare to walk away from all that is holding you captive: accept that although it is cold and dark the Sun will return to guide your steps across the rocky shore of burgeoning self-knowledge (VIII-Cups)

Be wary of anyone who wants you to accept obligations that will detour you from the path you have set with resolution

Determine what you can comfortably offer, but keep firmly focused on the seed you planted, do not be swayed by a well-turned phrase or a promise of philanthropy (Knight of Pentacles)

Position 5 (five cards) defines how the goal will be reached Card 1, how to garner inner strength: II-Cups Card 2, how to utilize exterior influences for self-empowerment: X-Swords Card 3, how to strengthen spiritual roots: VII-Cups Card 4, how to minimize challenges and maximize opportunities: IX-Swords Card 5, action to take to be prepared: V-Pentacles Not all obligations can be set aside

This then is the time to evaluate the benefits of your obligations to others and to expand your perspective to see other’s opinions, other’s points of views, and other’s obligations to you

Remove the hyper-emotionalism from any attempts at communication and be perfectly honest in making you demands and expectations known (II-Cups)

What lack of information or what misinformation is pinning you down? Grieve for what you must, release your anguish, and open yourself to all the lessons yet to be encountered, do not be paralyzed by the unknown

(X-Swords)

Freely engage in fantasy, revel in the possibilities offered in imagination

However be cognizant that fantasy seldom gains you ground on your quest (VII-Cups)

Put what you know and what you understand into concrete actions and move away from the morose: prepare to begin afresh (IX-Swords)

Look within, deeply within, for a milepost to determine where you are, what you need to do, and how you need to do it: be aware and look around you

Come to accept that the potential for spiritual progress in every situation we encounter (V-Pentacles)

Well! If you have stuck with me this far, thank you! I must say that I see little advantage to using 25-cards

However, having said that any exercise using the cards adds to my overall experience and give me a broader, firmer base from which to interpret the cards

In summation, the information gathered from this spread as it relates to the purpose of the spread is to look inwardly for answers while being fully cognizant that being “in the world” is a necessary and important part of this journey

Part of a Seekers goal should be finding the place of equilibrium between the purely spiritual and the purely worldly

Tarot on! HH [b]Edited April 07, 2003, several of the card interpretations had been truncated in the second and third positions

They have been restored
