Tarot by HHOriginally by jan50jan:- Have you tried a computer store? There are several differnt tarot CD roms that have a variety of decks in them and you can print them out too! Try printing them on index cards .any size you want jan
What are the legalities of printing decks that are licensed for use on tarot CD's? Is this an infringement of copyright law, or is printing from a CD not covered under copyright laws? I know that programmers pay a premium to license decks from US Games and Lo Scarbeo When we purchase the software does that give us, the end user title to printing them? Or are we only purchasing the rights to use the decks on the tarot CD? With few exceptions tarot decks are covered under international copyright laws, which in the main forbids copying art, articles, text, or books in except under the fair use laws In most instances fair use for tarot decks is limited to scanning and or copying four cards for educational purposes, reviews, critiques, etc Fair use is discussed here: http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/107.html One of the provisions states, " .the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work " How does this apply to printing from a CD? Jan, does the CD(s) you refer to grant either limited or unlimited rights to print from the CD to the end user? Paul O'Brien's _Tarot Magic_ includes as statement of Copyright and Trademarks and a caution regarding copyright infringement: "You may not reproduce, prepare derivative works based upon, distribute copies, etc "
